Meditation Tracker ("the app") counts your mantra chanting by listening to you. This policy explains what the app uses, what stays on your phone, and the few cases where something leaves it. In short: there is no account, no advertising and no analytics, and your chanting is counted on your phone.
1. Microphone and your voice
- Counting your chants: while you chant, the app listens through the microphone and recognises the mantra with a speech model built into the app. This happens entirely on your phone, works without internet, and the audio is not saved or sent anywhere.
- Counting with the screen off: if you turn this on, the app keeps listening in the same way, shown by an ongoing "Chanting" notification, until you pause it.
- Adding a mantra by speaking it: this uses your phone's own speech service (on most phones, Google's). That service may send the audio to its provider to turn it into text, under the provider's own privacy policy. You can always type a mantra instead.
- Your own recording of a mantra: if you choose to record yourself for "Play mantra", the recording is saved only inside the app on your phone. You can delete it at any time.
2. What is stored on your phone
The app saves the following only on your phone, in its private storage:
- Your mantras, counts, targets and mala choice
- Sankalpa (vow) progress and the days you chanted (for your streak)
- Reminder times, your Panchang city and the special-day reminder setting
- Settings such as language, theme, tick, vibration and bell
- Your mantra recordings, if you made any
We (the developer) cannot see any of this. Uninstalling the app or clearing its data deletes it.
3. When the internet is used
- Writing a typed mantra in Hindi: when you type a mantra in English letters (for example "om namah shivaya"), the text you typed is sent to Google Input Tools to convert it to Devanagari. Only that text is sent, over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection: no name, account or device identifier from the app. The app keeps no copy of it anywhere but on your phone; Google handles the request under Google's privacy policy. This is optional: if you are offline, or type in Devanagari, nothing is sent and the mantra is saved as you typed it.
- Nothing else in the app uses the internet. Chanting, the mantra library, sankalpa, reminders and Panchang all work offline. Panchang is calculated on your phone for the city you pick; the app does not use your location.
4. Backups
- Your own backup file: in Settings › Backup & restore, "Back up now" saves one file with your mantras and counts, sankalpas, reminders, chanting days, tags, settings and your mantra recordings, to the place you choose (for example Downloads or Google Drive). The app sends it nowhere by itself. If you save it to a cloud service, that service keeps it under its own terms. The file isn't encrypted, so keep it somewhere private; anyone who has it can read what's in it.
- Restoring: "Restore from backup" reads only the file you pick, on your phone. You choose to merge it with what's on the phone or to replace it.
- Android's own backup: if backup is turned on in your Android settings, Android may include the app's data (for example your mantras and settings) in your own Google backup, so it can be restored on a new phone. This is controlled by you and Google under your Google account settings; we do not receive it.
5. Permissions the app asks for
- Microphone: to count your chants, record your own mantra if you choose, and add a mantra by voice.
- Notifications: for chant reminders, special-day reminders and the "Chanting" notification while counting with the screen off.
- Alarms & reminders, full-screen notifications, run at startup: so reminders and wake-up alarms ring on time, can show over the lock screen, and are set again after the phone restarts.
- Vibration and keep awake: for the tick on each count and to keep counting reliable.
- Internet: only for writing a typed mantra in Hindi, as described above.
You can turn any permission off in Android settings; the parts of the app that need it will then not work.
6. What we do not do
- No account or sign-in, and no collection of your name, email, contacts or location.
- No advertising, no analytics or tracking tools, and no selling or sharing of personal data.
7. Children
The app's content is suitable for all ages (rated 3+ on Google Play), but it is designed for teenagers and adults (13 and over) and is not directed at children under 13. Younger children may use it with a parent. The app does not collect personal information from anyone, including children.
8. Deleting your data
All your data is on your phone, so you can delete it at any time: in Android settings, open Apps › Meditation Tracker › Storage › Clear storage, or uninstall the app. Backup files you saved are yours to delete wherever you put them. We keep nothing on any server, so there is nothing for us to delete; if you have a question, write to the address below.
9. Changes to this policy
If the app changes how it handles data, this page will be updated and the effective date above will change.
