In short: what you do in the app stays on your phone. We don't have accounts, servers, ads or tracking, and we never receive your stories, recordings or browsing.
Who we are
Voice Legacy is made by an independent developer in India ("we"). Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, we are responsible for the little personal data we receive, described below. Contact: support@codetumblr.net.
What is kept, and where
- Web pages you have read aloud are not stored unless you choose to save them.
- Stories, the books and pages you save, your playlists and your list of websites are stored only on your phone, each encrypted with its own key held in the phone's secure key store (Android Keystore).
- Voice recordings and voice profiles of your loved ones are stored the same way.
- When you delete something, its key is destroyed and the file overwritten, so it can't be recovered.
- The app's data is excluded from cloud backups and from transfers to a new phone.
- Backups: a backup is a file you make and save where you choose, encrypted with a passphrase only you know. We never receive it, and nobody can open it without the passphrase.
- PDF and ePub books you import are read on the phone; the file itself isn't sent anywhere.
When the app uses the internet
Only when you ask it to:
- Opening a link or browsing a website: the website receives your request like in any browser (your IP address, and its own cookies). That website's own privacy policy applies to it. The app's browser loads text only (no pictures, video or audio), blocks known ad and tracking networks and cross-site cookies, never lets a site use the camera, microphone or location, and asks before a link takes you to another website. It keeps a site's own cookies and saved data so sites keep working; you can erase them with "Clear website data".
- Searching for or downloading free books: Wikisource receives your search words and your IP address.
- Nothing else is sent: reading aloud, voice copying and everything else run on the phone itself.
Emails you send us
If you write to us, we receive your email address and whatever you include. We use it only to reply to you, never for marketing, and delete it within 12 months of your last message.
Permissions
- Microphone: only while you record a voice.
- Camera or photos: only when you scan a page. The photo is read on the phone and erased afterwards. The scanner uses Google ML Kit on the phone; Google may receive anonymous usage and performance statistics from it.
- You can turn these permissions off at any time in Android Settings › Apps › Voice Legacy › Permissions; the rest of the app keeps working.
Children
Voice Legacy is meant for people aged 13 and over. Anyone under 18 should use it with a parent's or guardian's permission. The app doesn't collect personal data from anyone, including children; it has nowhere to send it.
Your rights
Under Indian law you can ask to see, correct or erase personal data about you, name someone to act for you if you can't, and have a complaint answered.
- Everything on your phone is under your control: view, edit or delete it in the app, or erase it all with Settings › About › Delete all my data. Uninstalling the app deletes it too.
- For emails you have sent us, write to support@codetumblr.net. We reply within 30 days.
- If you're not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the Data Protection Board of India.
If something goes wrong
Your stories and recordings never leave your phone, so a breach on our side can't expose them. If emails you sent us were ever exposed, we would tell you and the Data Protection Board of India, as the law requires.
Changes and contact
If this policy changes, the app will show the new version. Questions: support@codetumblr.net.

संक्षेप में: ऐप में आप जो करते हैं, वह आपके फ़ोन पर ही रहता है। हमारे पास न खाते हैं, न सर्वर, न विज्ञापन, न ट्रैकिंग, और आपकी कहानियाँ, रिकॉर्डिंग या ब्राउज़िंग कभी हम तक नहीं पहुँचतीं।
हम कौन हैं
Voice Legacy को भारत के एक स्वतंत्र डेवलपर ("हम") ने बनाया है। भारत के डिजिटल व्यक्तिगत डेटा संरक्षण अधिनियम, 2023 के तहत, हम तक पहुँचने वाले थोड़े-से व्यक्तिगत डेटा की ज़िम्मेदारी हमारी है, जिसका ब्योरा नीचे है। संपर्क: support@codetumblr.net।
क्या रखा जाता है, और कहाँ
- जिन वेब पेजों को आपने पढ़कर सुना, वे तब तक नहीं रखे जाते जब तक आप उन्हें सहेजें नहीं।
- कहानियाँ, आपकी सहेजी किताबें और पेज, आपकी प्लेलिस्ट और वेबसाइटों की सूची सिर्फ़ आपके फ़ोन पर रहती हैं, हर एक अपनी अलग कुंजी से एन्क्रिप्टेड, जो फ़ोन के सुरक्षित कुंजी-भंडार (Android Keystore) में रहती है।
- अपनों की आवाज़ की रिकॉर्डिंग और आवाज़ की प्रोफ़ाइल भी इसी तरह रखी जाती हैं।
- जब आप कुछ मिटाते हैं, उसकी कुंजी नष्ट कर दी जाती है और फ़ाइल को ओवरराइट किया जाता है, इसलिए उसे वापस नहीं लाया जा सकता।
- ऐप का डेटा क्लाउड बैकअप और नए फ़ोन में ट्रांसफ़र से बाहर रखा गया है।
- बैकअप: बैकअप एक फ़ाइल है जिसे आप बनाते हैं और अपनी चुनी जगह सहेजते हैं, सिर्फ़ आपको पता पासफ़्रेज़ से एन्क्रिप्टेड। वह कभी हम तक नहीं पहुँचती, और पासफ़्रेज़ के बिना कोई उसे नहीं खोल सकता।
- आप जो PDF और ePub किताबें जोड़ते हैं, वे फ़ोन पर ही पढ़ी जाती हैं; फ़ाइल कहीं नहीं भेजी जाती।
ऐप इंटरनेट का उपयोग कब करता है
सिर्फ़ जब आप कहें:
- कोई लिंक खोलना या वेबसाइट देखना: किसी भी ब्राउज़र की तरह वेबसाइट को आपका अनुरोध मिलता है (आपका IP पता और उसकी अपनी कुकीज़)। उस वेबसाइट पर उसकी अपनी गोपनीयता नीति लागू होती है। ऐप का ब्राउज़र सिर्फ़ पाठ लोड करता है (चित्र, वीडियो या ऑडियो नहीं), जाने-माने विज्ञापन और ट्रैकिंग नेटवर्क तथा दूसरी साइटों की कुकीज़ रोकता है, किसी साइट को कैमरा, माइक्रोफ़ोन या लोकेशन नहीं देता, और किसी लिंक से दूसरी वेबसाइट पर जाने से पहले पूछता है। साइटें ठीक चलें, इसके लिए वह उनकी अपनी कुकीज़ और सहेजा डेटा रखता है; इन्हें "वेबसाइट डेटा साफ़ करें" से मिटाया जा सकता है।
- मुफ़्त किताबें खोजना या डाउनलोड करना: विकिस्रोत को आपके खोज-शब्द और IP पता मिलता है।
- और कुछ नहीं भेजा जाता: पढ़कर सुनाना, आवाज़ की कॉपी और बाक़ी सब फ़ोन पर ही होता है।
आप हमें जो ईमेल भेजते हैं
अगर आप हमें लिखते हैं, तो हमें आपका ईमेल पता और आपके संदेश में लिखी बातें मिलती हैं। हम इनका उपयोग सिर्फ़ आपको जवाब देने के लिए करते हैं, मार्केटिंग के लिए कभी नहीं, और आपके आख़िरी संदेश के 12 महीनों के भीतर इन्हें मिटा देते हैं।
अनुमतियाँ
- माइक्रोफ़ोन: सिर्फ़ तब, जब आप कोई आवाज़ रिकॉर्ड करते हैं।
- कैमरा या फ़ोटो: सिर्फ़ तब, जब आप कोई पेज स्कैन करते हैं। फ़ोटो फ़ोन पर ही पढ़ी जाती है और बाद में मिटा दी जाती है। स्कैनर फ़ोन पर Google ML Kit का उपयोग करता है; Google को इससे उपयोग और प्रदर्शन के गुमनाम आँकड़े मिल सकते हैं।
- आप ये अनुमतियाँ कभी भी Android सेटिंग › ऐप्स › Voice Legacy › अनुमतियाँ में बंद कर सकते हैं; बाक़ी ऐप चलता रहेगा।
बच्चे
Voice Legacy 13 साल और उससे ज़्यादा उम्र के लोगों के लिए है। 18 साल से कम उम्र के लोग इसे माता-पिता या अभिभावक की अनुमति से इस्तेमाल करें। ऐप किसी से, बच्चों से भी, कोई व्यक्तिगत डेटा इकट्ठा नहीं करता; उसके पास उसे भेजने की कोई जगह ही नहीं है।
आपके अधिकार
भारतीय क़ानून के तहत आप अपने बारे में व्यक्तिगत डेटा देखने, सुधारने या मिटाने को कह सकते हैं, ख़ुद न कर सकें तो अपनी जगह किसी को नामित कर सकते हैं, और अपनी शिकायत का जवाब पा सकते हैं।
- आपके फ़ोन पर जो कुछ है, वह पूरी तरह आपके हाथ में है: उसे ऐप में देखें, बदलें या मिटाएँ, या सेटिंग › ऐप के बारे में › मेरा सारा डेटा मिटाएँ से सब मिटा दें। ऐप अनइंस्टॉल करने से भी वह मिट जाता है।
- आपने हमें जो ईमेल भेजे हैं, उनके लिए support@codetumblr.net पर लिखें। हम 30 दिनों के भीतर जवाब देते हैं।
- अगर हमारे जवाब से आप संतुष्ट न हों, तो आप भारत के डेटा संरक्षण बोर्ड से शिकायत कर सकते हैं।
अगर कुछ गड़बड़ हो
आपकी कहानियाँ और रिकॉर्डिंग कभी आपके फ़ोन से बाहर नहीं जातीं, इसलिए हमारी ओर से कोई सेंध उन्हें उजागर नहीं कर सकती। अगर आपके भेजे ईमेल कभी उजागर हुए, तो हम क़ानून के अनुसार आपको और भारत के डेटा संरक्षण बोर्ड को बताएँगे।
बदलाव और संपर्क
